Quarantine

‘Quarantine’ was taken during the 2020 - 2021 lockdowns in the UK. Many of these images were taken at home, with others being taken not too far away. They were all taken with a Nikon D5300 and a macro lens attachment.

This project was my first time attempting macro photography, as well as my first go at using a macro lens.

All of these images have varying degrees of a shallow depth of field, meaning that less of the background is in focus. This is particularly good for when the subject needs to stand out from the background to draw focus towards it, such as in portrait photography. It also helps make the image stand out and appear more full of life.

With this project, I had been feeling stuck all year, and hadn’t been able to go out to photograph anything further away. This was my way of feeling a little less stuck, whilst being able to do something creative and get back into photography, which many photographers hadn’t really been able to do for a while.
